i think “deadlock is family” uses a very loose definition of “family” but the usage of “family” makes people think of like… a nuclear family, when that’s definitely not the case

i think i see it different because my family tree is different (i have a half brother, his mom isn’t married to my dad anymore but she’s still a big part of my life therefore i call her my stepmom & her daughter my stepsister)

a family can be anything to anyone, including people you don’t see as brother, sister, or parent PLUS it’s also a mafia/crime term, not everyone in a criminal “family” actually sees themselves as a traditional family

another example is the shimada clan, yes the members we know from it are the family that runs the clan (genji, hanzo) but it’s also shown to include family as people who aren’t related (kiriko and her mother)

family can include friends, lovers, and people you’re related to - it can slso EXCLUDE those things too

THEREFORE saying “ashe and cassidy see each other as family/brother and sister” is not entirely true. people can have their own opinions and headcanons, but it doesn’t change that their relationship is described as complicated or the fact that cassidy canonically flirts with ashe

also the “ashe and cassidy see each other as siblings” interview is not real i have searched for like 30mins for it under both the name cassidy & mccree and it doesn’t exist - the only thing similar i can find is micheal chu confirming they never formally dated in the past and that could even be retconned eventually considered he doesn’t work for blizzard anymore & the story is taking a slightly different direction from what seems to have been originally intended

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
